The Chinese university South China University of Technology (SCUT) presented, this Thursday, October 30th, cooperation proposals with Unicamp, which include the exchange of students, professors and researchers and strategic collaboration in areas such as computer engineering, food engineering, artificial intelligence (AI) and transportation, among others, in addition to support for joint applications in projects and the creation of a research center that brings together the two universities.

The rector of Unicamp, Paulo Cesar Montagner, who met with a delegation from SCUT during a trip to China in September, highlighted the similarity between the two institutions. “Chinese universities are very close to Unicamp. When I met with SCUT, I realized that we have projects and interests in common. Of the proposals presented, only the research center will require more planning time. I suggested a study group to establish the responsibilities of each university in order to define the progress of a possible joint research center,” he commented.
The rector of SCUT, Zhang Xichun, highlighted the internationalization projects of the Chinese university, which has three campuses in Guangzhou, in the southern region of the country, and its multidisciplinary programs in science and technology. “There are summer study programs with professors from institutions such as…” Harvard UniversityCity and MIT [Massachusetts Institute of Technology], "With classes in English. We invite students and professors from Unicamp to learn about our projects," he stated.
Xichun highlighted that SCUT has recently signed several collaboration agreements with institutions such as... University of Western Australia (UWA) and the University of Canterbury (UC), in New Zealand, to strengthen its internationalization projects. “Currently, education in China is consolidating a trend of openness and development. SCUT has been dedicated to supporting high-level education and expanding its global circle of partners,” he stated.

Director Rafael Dias, from the Executive Directorate of International Relations (Deri) at Unicamp, highlights that the University currently has cooperation agreements with more than 40 Chinese institutions. Regarding the meeting with representatives from SCUT, everything indicates that the move will be towards an agreement to establish a mobility channel for professors and researchers. “We foresee academic collaboration, shared courses, and joint research projects. We will continue the dialogue in online meetings,” he added.
