Unicamp welcomed a delegation from Macau this Friday (10), including rectors and representatives from eight higher education institutions, three of them public, to present papers, exchange experiences, and renew educational agreements. Rector Paulo Cesar Montagner emphasized the importance of the meeting. "It's a unique opportunity to discuss higher education policies, research, innovation, and cultural and scientific exchange to strengthen our international ties. These agreements will benefit our institutions and our students," he stated.
The event was organized by Unicamp's Executive Board of International Relations (Deri). Deri Director Rafael Dias presented information about the University and highlighted existing exchange and cooperation programs. "We have agreements with more than 80 countries and around 600 institutions, 40 of which are Chinese," he stated. He also emphasized that the University's internationalization process is one of Unicamp's strategic objectives.

Teng Sio Hong, director of the Macau Education and Youth Development Services Bureau, highlighted the opportunity to seal agreements that provide for faculty and student exchanges and scholarships. "Unicamp represents innovation. Our institutions are young, like the University of Campinas, and, like you, we have already achieved excellent results in science and technology," he stated.
"We have a long history of cooperation between Macau and Brazil, and today, our goal is to take a more in-depth look at how we can strengthen the training of qualified research professionals. We also have a common goal of developing cooperation projects to expand our areas of joint training, student and faculty exchange, and facilitate scholarships," he added.
The rector of the Macau Polytechnic University, Im Sio Kei, emphasized that, as a public university, it shares common goals with Unicamp. "Quality higher education, opportunities for academic cooperation, and exchange are essential," he stated. The vice-rector of the University of Macau, Hui King Man, also a public institution, emphasized the pursuit of internationalization and the expansion of its campus, which will have the capacity to accommodate 10 students by 2028.

Macau, a Portuguese colony for over four centuries, maintains cultural ties with the language, despite Chinese being the most widely spoken language since 1999, when it became a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China. João Alexandre Lobo Marques, vice-rector of São José University and the only Brazilian in the Macau delegation, stated that among the goals of the institution where he works is "increasing integration with Portuguese-speaking countries." São José even renewed its educational agreement with Unicamp during the event.
Unicamp's Provost of Outreach, Sports, and Culture (Proeec), Sylvia Furegatti, emphasized the opportunity for cultural exchanges with Macau. "All missions have this common goal: establishing agreements and exchanges. The Provost's Office is an outreach and internationalization center," she added.
