On May 16, the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), through its Executive Board of International Relations (DERI), received representatives from the Steering Committee of the Magalhães Network. The visit aimed to strengthen ties between the Network and the University, with a focus on expanding partnerships in research, development and doctoral programs.
Created in 2005, the Magalhães Network promotes academic exchange and collaboration between institutions in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. The network brings together public and private universities focused on technology, engineering and architecture, offering member institutions: effective tools for student exchange; systematic exchange of best practices in internationalization; and a collaborative platform for the development of joint projects.
The Magalhães Network was represented during the visit by: Roberto Zanino, president of the network (Politecnico di Torino, Italy); Luis Vargas, vice-president (University of Chile, Chile); Lope Barrero, member for Latin America (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Colombia); Marcio Lobo Netto, member for Latin America (University of São Paulo, Brazil); Rui Mendes, member for Europe (Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal); Alberto Godio, secretary (Politecnico di Torino, Italy); Elisa Armando, secretary (Politecnico di Torino, Italy); Piergiorgio Rossi, secretary (Politecnico di Torino, Italy).

The following people participated in the meeting from Unicamp: Rafael Dias, director of international relations; Katia Lucchesi, associate director of the School of Mechanical Engineering (FEM); Mariana Rodrigues, associate director of the School of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urbanism (FECFAU); and Angélica Torresin, coordinator of international cooperation.
During the meeting, the expansion of the Network's activities and the creation of closer channels of dialogue between its representatives and the academic community of member universities were discussed, with a view to strengthening existing collaborations and developing new joint initiatives, especially in postgraduate studies.
